Kia Ora magazine has published a small review of The South Island of New Zealand — From the Road by Robin Morrison celebrating the new edition of this landmark book.
‘IN 1979 PHOTOGRAPHER Robin Morrison (1944-1993) took his family on a seven-month photographic roadie in the South Island, capturing “The land, its people and the mark they have left on the country,” he wrote. The resulting book was a sell-out, and now it’s back in a splendid new edition. The South Island of New Zealand from the Road (Massey University Press, $75) includes digitised versions of the original Kodachrome slides, essays and memories from contemporaries. The launch coincides with Road Trip, an exhibition at Auckland War Memorial Museum Tāmaki Paenga Hira, from March 3. A selection of images from the book will be on show, plus insights into the trip. In 1992, Morrison donated his collection — more than 100,000 photographs and negatives — to the museum.’
