Andrew Brown has taught medieval history at Massey University since 2010. Before then he was a senior lecturer at Edinburgh University. His main research interests are focused on religion, ceremony and society in late medieval Europe. His books include Popular Piety in Late Medieval England (OUP, 1995) and Civic Ceremony and Religion in Medieval Bruges (CUP, 2011). He is writing and co-editing a collection of essays on medieval urban cultures, and a new, multi-authored history of Bruges, 900–1550, to be published by CUP.
