A hallmark of the punk scene in the 1980s, zines are now thriving with their own festivals throughout the country.
‘Zinester’ Bryce Galloway has written the story of New Zealand's rich history in the often underground, self-publishing scene.
They are usually created by one person, or a small group with a dedication to a subject — the likes of a political movement, or reviews of a band you couldn't find anywhere else.
Bryce's new book Zines NZ: Punk to Present explores the zine publishing from its 1980s punk-rock origins to the vibrant contemporary zinefest scene. Bryce is also an artist and an academic at Massey
University.
